The short answer, and where it comes from
The headline estimate is 50 to 70 hours for a complete playthrough. Speaking to Shacknews in July 2026, game director and studio CEO Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said that when studio staff played the game internally, it took them between 50 and 70 hours to finish.
Back in April 2026, when Rebel Wolves first shared playtime expectations via GameReactor, the framing was that around 50 hours is the average, and that the number moves depending on difficulty, how picky you are, how much you explore and how much you upgrade your gear.
Two caveats matter. These are developer estimates from internal playtesters rather than verified public completion times, and the studio has said the scope grew during development — an initial target closer to 40 hours expanded into the 50-70 band as the world and quest web filled out.
Why there is no fixed main-story length
Most RPGs have a reliable completion time because they have a fixed main quest. The Blood of Dawnwalker deliberately does not. Rebel Wolves calls the structure a narrative sandbox, and it is the single biggest reason playtime can swing by 20 hours between two people.
After the prologue the game hands you a budget rather than a questline: 30 days and 30 nights to find Coen's family. Quests can be tackled in any order, done partially, skipped entirely, or never discovered at all. Two players can both finish the game having seen very different slices of it.
That is why asking for the main-story time on its own does not really work here. The 50-70 hour figure describes a full playthrough, not a linear critical path you march down.
The 30 days are a budget, not a countdown
This is the detail most quick summaries get wrong: there is no real-time timer ticking against you. Time is a currency you spend on major, plot-relevant actions, and the game tells you what each of those choices will cost before you commit.
Per the PlayStation Blog's July 2026 developer feature, wandering, watching, listening and travelling do not move the sun. Only choosing to intervene does. The daylight stretch is divided into eight parts, which gives the passage of time real texture rather than an abstract meter.
It is worth being clear about what this system is not. It is not a Majora's Mask-style loop that resets you, and it is not a punishing real-time clock. It is a resource-management layer sitting over an open RPG.
How day and night change your pace
Coen's dual nature runs through the same system. He is human by day and vampiric by night, and the developers have framed this as a genuine gameplay split rather than a cosmetic one. Sunlight does not burn him, so daytime carries the social connections, investigation and the wider world, while night unlocks vampiric power and ferocity.
Because major story beats are what push time forward, how you sequence your days and nights shapes both your build and your pace. A player leaning hard into night-time vampiric power will run a different rhythm — and potentially a different total length — than one who favours daytime pursuits.
As of the pre-launch material, the exact rules for which specific actions cost time, and whether the night is segmented the same way the day's eight parts are, had not been fully detailed. Treat the finer mechanics as to be confirmed.
Does difficulty change the length?
Yes, and the studio said so directly. The game ships with four difficulty levels, and Rebel Wolves explicitly listed difficulty as one of the factors that moves your completion time inside the 50-70 hour band.
Higher difficulty means tougher, longer fights and more deliberate preparation — upgrading gear, managing resources, planning approaches — all of which pushes you toward the top of the range. A lower setting, a direct route through the story and less optional exploration lands you nearer the 50-hour floor.
If you clear every side thread on a harder setting, plan for something closer to 70 hours, and possibly more once real completionist runs are measured after release.
How much can you see in one run?
By design, a single playthrough will not show you everything. Because quests are skippable, order-independent and gated behind how you spend your days, a meaningful amount of content is mutually exclusive within one run.
Pre-launch coverage put a single informed playthrough at roughly 60 to 80 percent of the content, with more missed if you do not know what you are looking for. Rebel Wolves has not published an official figure for how many playthroughs a 100 percent run needs.
The structure strongly implies completionists will want at least two runs, which effectively doubles the time investment above the 50-70 hour single-playthrough estimate. A second run built around different choices and a different day/night balance should surface content the first one locked away.
The fastest possible run
You are allowed to skip almost all of it. Once the prologue ends you can head straight for the final confrontation, and the game will let you try. That produces a dramatically shorter experience.
It also produces a very hard one. Facing Brencis as a freshly made Dawnwalker means going in without the perks, gear and allies the rest of the valley would have given you, and the studio has framed beating him that early as a legendary feat rather than a viable strategy.
Note that the trophy list rewards rescuing your family within the 30 days as its own award, so a speed-focused run and a trophy run are not the same objective.
When will real completion data exist?
Not until the game has been out for a while. HowLongToBeat times are crowd-sourced from players who have actually finished a game, so meaningful data can only start accumulating after the September 3, 2026 launch on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Until then, the 50-70 hour range from Rebel Wolves is the best available guide — a developer estimate, not a measured average. We will update this page once real playthrough numbers exist.
Still to be confirmed
- Measured HowLongToBeat completion times for main story, main plus extras and completionist runs — to be confirmed after launch.
- Whether the night is divided into segments the same way the day's eight parts are — to be confirmed.
- An official number of playthroughs needed to see all content, or to reach 100 percent — Rebel Wolves has not published one.
- How much time a dedicated completionist run takes beyond the 70-hour upper estimate — to be confirmed.
